Over Thanksgiving, my mother blessed me with her present and wisdom. One statement she made after she arrived shook me to my core. “Have you lost weight? Look thinner than when I saw you a few months back.” I paused because one; I had thought I had lost more weight when I saw her last and two; I hadn’t been to the gym all week (le sigh). After a moment I nodded smiling and took ALL THE CREDIT.
Now here is the thing, I swing steadily between 130 and 135 max. I plan to lose 10% of my body fat next all year long but right now with muscle mass we are looking at 132 average. For my BMI this is normal and healthy which I am proud of but I trying to get back to my swimmer body (wish me luck). Approach the big 30 means taking into account my current physique and relating myself to consist small wins every single day. It means making it a priority to eat right at least once in the day, walk or excuses and take a new activity that I do every week. I never thought my keep with my skin routine could fake out my mom…..but it did.
You’re probably thinking at this point….”Keelyn how does healthy skin mean I lost weight?” Hear me out. A healthy complexion means what?
- Vitality
- Youth
- Resilience
- Fresh
- Lively
- Robust
The list can go on and on, but the point is that the condition of your skin can people the idea that you’re either really healthy and thriving or your about to fade to another plane of existence. Think about it. When you read magazines, watch commercials and travel to other countries you see beautiful, healthy sun-kissed models with literally the perfect skin. Nines times out of ten they had an amazing body and are in different shape. It’s not hard to see a societal correlation occurring. Body image is a bigger factor both here and in Asia. So important that parents usually give plastic surgery treatments as graduation gifts to teens. Crazy ? right?
It was in my mid 20’s I realized how important exercise is for me. Full disclosure I am currently in an epic battle with my belly and muffin top fat. We are bitter rivals so it was never about my eating so much as consistently incorporating activity and muscle building. I have my amazing weeks and not so amazing weeks but I do my best to visit the gym at least 2 a week at a minimum. This gives my body the ability to move before I sit on my a$$ all night. Which I now try to stop by doing something productive.
All in all there seem to a magic formula for appearing thinner when you look super healthy, especially in the face and that all comes down to maintaining a healthy skincare routine. It gives people the perception that you are apparently losing weight. When put together (“Healthy Skincare + Healthy Lifestyle”) it equals a surprising outcome that others are bound to notice. One way to begin this track is by planning a skin routine around a workout schedule. If you are starting out try this:
Monday
1 hr Cardio and 5 Step Skincare Routine
Wednesday
1 hr Muscle Building and Masking Day
Friday
1 Aerobic and Peeling with Sleep Pack Day
Beginning a basic schedule will put you into a routine you can coordinate and daily, weekly, monthly and before you know it your family member is asking you what diet you’re on. That’s the moment when all you have to do is smile, nod and take all the credit with that healthy skin of yours.
