NEW V. FRIENDS MISSION
Hey, beauties! I ‘m back with yet another V.Friends mission review. While I got some new Japanese products I plan to review for you guys this week I wanted to take this time to shed light on the V.Beauty channel on V.Live. For those who don’t know V.Live is an available to broadcast content from your favorite Korean idols and channels. My current obsession is two sisters on to beauty who do make-up tutorials covering Idol looks. They have done so far Twice, Blackpink and Red Velvet but the video I wanna chat about today is their cover of BTS’s Jimin! Let’s Get to It!
The reason I choose this particular video to review is that of it clearly rare to see a make-up of a male idol. While the clear click bait is there (HELLO IT’S JIMIN) I was more interested in how a look made for a male’s facial features and bone structure would look on a female. Not gonna lie this video is probably their most watched due to the subject and BTS’s current reputation. Also not gonna lie I will discuss both the strength and weakness of this video in my own opinion. Clearly if you are interested please download the app and watch for yourself. Let’s strengths.
- FUN
- INFORMATIVE
- KNOWLEDGEABLE
- PREPARED
The two sisters are charismatic and enjoyable to watch. They work together to keep you entertained. From what I can make-out the older sister is the MUA in training and using her little as the practice face. So the looks have not been overly complicated and novice make-up wears can learn the trick to make their look appear professionally done. I enjoyed seeing how much they were having. The MUA was great and explaining the purpose of each product use. The nudes and browns she places on her sister’s eyes to give the dramatic intensity Jim have in the image, the reason for contouring around his jawline and upper cheekbone, why limited make-up was important. She showed every item she used on her sister on camera. She explained every shade she applied and she even prepped her sister’s skin with toner, and two creams before she began applying make-up (A CRITICAL THING PEOPLE…I WILL BE TALKING ABOUT THIS SOON). I really think these sisters are on the right track with their tutorials. Now let’s talk about the videos weaknesses….
- PRODUCT QUALITY
- PROCESS
- LENGTH
The girls are fun to watch but taking 6 minutes to say “Hi” and “Hello” was a bit overkill. People tuning in need time to show up I know but to me, it took too long to start the video tutorial. In their other videos, it does like 10 minutes before they start. I get if they are running through updates from the fans but it feels like most of the time is taken up talking about nonsense and it doesn’t keep me interested. My next issue was the quality of the products which they were using. She used items like Too Cool For School Art Class by Rodin contour and Etude House eyeshadow palette which can carry a mid-level to low-level price range. But when she pulled the Wet’n Wild foundation out I kinda lost it!
◊Mini rant alert: Look I know Wet’n Wild works for some people and the seasonal collections can be vibrant but their foundation is a drug store quality and super rough in my opinion. Many people including myself have broken out from the ingredients in the formula. I just can’t let that slide especially when you have some many well-made foundations on the market. You get what you pay for and that an international statement. Ok, rant over!◊
My final issue was with the process. The tutorial was extremely eye heavy, meaning most of the detail of the look is his eyes. But the MUA in training completed her sisters face with first then moved to her eyes. To finish she has to use a clean cushion to rest her hand on her face without ruining her make-up. If she has started with her first this would have been avoided. Many MUA do this because it saves the face from being messed up. Again these are my thoughts guys so.
Overall: Even with the weaknesses that I know they will improve on their videos are adorable and give the viewer the confidence to try it for themselves. I enjoyed it overall and see the finished product was stunning. So keep up the great work girls.
