Happy Valentines Day everyone ♥. Today’s journey has led me back to the V.FRIENDS competition sponsored by Allkpop and the V.Live app. For those who don’t know V.Live is an available app that broadcast content from your favorite Korean idols and channels. While the still learning a lot about its viewership it being offering some new content I really digging -. Like this makeup tutorial for teens done by MINSCO, a beauty content creator on the V Beauty channel. Today’s video was unique because she brought two of her mentee’s in to complete the tutorial. Instead of doing it herself she used teenagers (17 and 18) to reflect how an average teen girl should her makeup for picture day. In Korea, it’s very common to have your picture taken at school for your ID among other things. A person’s looks carry importance in their society so makeup is a way semi-natural way to enhance a teens appearance. Let’s get the video’s strengths and weaknesses.
??UNIQUE: Instead of her doing their make-up they did it themselves. They used the same products sometimes but overall they used shades and tones that complimented their skin tones. Primarily warm and cold. Both girls didn’t look overdone either. A very simple, natural look for teens going to school.
??INSIGHTFUL: Minsco did most of the explaining around techniques and helpful tips. There were times she stepped in to assist the girls. She highlighted the eyebrows, cheeks, and eyes the most.
??SURPRISING: She spoke in English from time to time which I found refreshing. The interacted well with the audience and answer question that the viewer had. What was also refreshing was seeing them using well know skin care products from Holika Holika Good Cera line to prepare their skin in the beginning.
??CONSISTENCY: I wish they would have used the same brands to create the look. I think they brands will start to consider sponsoring tutorial if they are featured or highlighted. You can also the place to purchase it from. This is more about marketing though. This tutorial video was so unique that I don’t have many issues with it.
Overall: The approach was very interesting to see and I wish I had this growing up. I also look forward to Minsco two mentorees, they are learning a lot from her. V.Live is really stepping up their game on providing views with content that they can relate to. I am looking forward to more tutorials from Minsco. Their audience will grow the more they offer English based content as well. So hopefully that will soon come as well.
